While a few people are able to cut their own hair, the majority of those in need of a haircut prefer the convenience of the local barber shop. Barbers have provided haircuts and shaves for men for a long time.  Today’s unique hair styles, along with the addition of women to the customer base, increase the likelihood of requiring a barber’s services, making it a good choice for a career that is not likely to be displaced due to technical advances.

The New Leaf Foundation offers training to prepare inmates for a career as a barber. Students learn the entrepreneurial skills necessary to succeed in business, as well as the technical skills of hair cutting, styling, shaving, and various specialty skills.
